Down in Southern Colorado,
Just above New Mexico,
is a little slice of heaven
where the big bulls go.
Where the eagles soar above you
in the high thin mountain air,
and the bugling from the forest
tells that trophy bulls are there.
On the Purgatorie River,
where the stream runs clear and cold,
and the timber meets the meadow
that in fall turns yellow gold.
Where the great Sangre de Cristo
slopes down east to meet the plain
and the crash of rolling thunder
calls the tune for mountain rain.
As the days become much shorter
and a chill is in the air
mountain music from the timber
says, "Los Magnificos," are there.
Newly named "Bosque del Oso,"
or "The Forest of the Bear,"
it has just been saved forever
by a group of folks who care.
