"Crossing The Flathead" 16" x 32" |
Up where the Continental divide leaves Montana and crosses into Alberta are scores of glaciers. Each generates uncounted continuous trickles of meltwater that join into torrents, cascading to the valley floor. One by one, these icy streams join, and the mighty Flathead is created. The valley of the Flathead River is the ancestral home of one of North America's most colorful Native American nations. The Flathead tribe, though small in number, was relatively affluent and had enough time and assets to wage successful, defensive warfare with their arch enemies, the Blackfeet.
